Guide to Owning with Karthus

These are not my videos.
Karthus has been my favorite champion for some time now. Because he is my favorite champion, and a great carry, I am creating this guide for him.

Why should you play Karthus?
  • Karthus is like, one of the best casters, carries, and mages ever. 
  • He can cast spells after he's dead. 
  • He has crowd control, and is able to kill minions fast with his AoE. 
  • Plus, He has auto mana replenishment with his E skill. 
  • His ultimate you ask? People rage quit because he's "op-ed."



This guide will just be the basics, telling you what items, skills, runes, masteries, you should be getting in order to own with him.
First starting with skills, if you are laning in the middle with Karthus, you should probably take Ignite and Flash/Exhaust. These skills combined with his Q and E skill will promise ownage.



Masteries: I use 9-0-21. The extra magic penetration and ability power are great for Karthus.  It'll also greatly increase his survivability rate. 




Karthus' Passive is known as Death Defied. In this passive, when Karthus is dead, he is able to cast spells for 7 seconds before he goes through the countdown to revival.

Karthus' Q skill is known as Lay Waste. Lay Waste is a 1 second delay spell which will explode at the mouse cursor's location. This skill is great for harassing people and for scouting those brushes. 

Cost: 20 / 26 / 32 / 38 / 44 Mana
Damage: 40 / 60 / 80 / 100 / 120 (+0.3 per ability power).
This skill can potential deal over 250 damage with this guide. A really great tool for harassing people. 

Karthus' E skill is known as Wall of Pain. It is very similar to Anivia's skill, however, Wall of Pain has a much bigger range and slows the enemy along with lowering their armor and magic resistance. This skill is perfect for blocking those jungling entrances, and using it as an escape mechanism. Using this wall will also raise your chances of hitting the enemy with Lay Waste. Remember to always aim a bit farther than where the enemy champion is standing.
Wall Length: 800 / 900 / 1,000 / 1,100 / 1,200
Armor and Magic Resist Reduction: 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 / 35
Slow: 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 %
Karthus' E skill is his AoE skill. It's passive allows Karthus to restore mana when he kills a minion, champion, or object (turret). It can easily kill groups of large minions.
Mana Restored: 20 / 27 / 34 / 41 / 48 per kill

Cost: 30 / 42 / 54 / 66 / 78 mana per second
Magic Damage: 30 / 50 / 70 / 90 / 110 (+0.25 per ability power)

Karthus' R skill is his bread and butter. This is the ultimate that everyone hates. His R skill is known as Requiem. It is a global spell that deals damage to all enemy champions. It has a channeling time of 3 seconds, so interruptions can occur. 
Some champions that are able to counter Karthus' ult are  , ,  ,  .
Cost: 150 / 175 / 200 mana
Cooldown: 180 / 150 / 120seconds
Magic Damage: 250 / 400 / 550 (+0.6 per ability power) < Look at that damage!
Runes
For runes, always remember to save up for those tier 3 runes. Never buy any runes beforehand, because they are virtually worthless. 
Marks: Get Greater Marks of Insight. The magic penetration will do you good.
Seals: Greater seal of Force. These seals will increase your AP per level, reaching 1.8 at level 18 for 1 rune! Imagine 9 of those...
Glyphs: Greater Glyph of Potency. Again, the extra Ability Power is great. You can start off a game with 25+ AP from runes. 
Quintessences: Greater Quintessence of Potency. Extra Ability Power is always great to increase his damage! :)

Items: I start with a Mana Crystal. Karthus could really use the extra mana at the start until he gets his E skill. Besides, The mana crystal will later incorporate into the Rod of Ages. Along with the mana crystal, it is best to take 2 hp potions, since that is 400hp extra that will help you stay in your lane.
